Frequently Asked Questions
- Why only one cast per day?
- The I Ching teaches that one should "approach divination with reverence." Casting too often dilutes that reverence. The App follows the one-hexagram-a-day tradition. If you need more casts, enable Auxiliary Divination in Settings — it grants three additional daily casts.
- Why can't I cast between 23:00 and 4:00?
- Late night and pre-dawn hours are traditionally considered unsuitable for divination. The App opens casting between 4:00 and 23:00 daily.
- Which of the three methods should I use?
- There is no single right answer. The Number Method is fast and convenient for daily use. The Coin Toss is the classic traditional method and yields changing lines. The Yarrow Stalks method is the most ancient and ceremonious. We suggest starting with the Number Method to get familiar, then exploring the others.
- What are changing lines?
- A changing line represents a line in transition, transforming the primary hexagram into a variant hexagram. The App supports the full set of rules for 0–6 changing lines: no changes → primary Judgment; one change → that line's text; multiple changes → traditional rules for primary/secondary emphasis; all six lines change → variant Judgment, or the special 用九/用六 cases for Qian and Kun. - How does AI interpretation work?
- AI interpretation uses a large language model (DeepSeek) to generate a modern-vernacular reading based on the hexagram and your question (if any). It runs only when you trigger it, and the result is saved locally. New users get a 21-day free trial (one interpretation per day).
- Is the AI interpretation accurate?
- AI interpretation is an aid, not authoritative. It can frame the hexagram's possible meanings in modern language, but the heart of the I Ching is your own repeated reflection on the hexagram and how it connects to your life. Use the AI output as a starting point, not the conclusion.
- Are my divination records uploaded?
- No. All records, questions, and reflections are stored locally on your device. Only when you actively trigger AI interpretation does the necessary hexagram data get sent to the server (see the Privacy Policy).
- How do I back up my records?
- Settings → Backup & Restore → Export to a JSON file you can save to cloud storage or email. On a new device, use Restore to import. Note: subscription status, trial progress, and redemption codes are intentionally excluded from backup (to prevent cross-device sharing). Use "Restore Purchases" on the new device.
- How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by App Store / Google Play:
- iOS: Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions → IChingStyle → Cancel
- Android: Google Play → Profile → Payments & Subscriptions → Subscriptions → IChingStyle → Cancel
- I switched devices and lost my purchase / trial.
- Subscriptions can be restored on the Subscription page via "Restore Purchases". Trial progress is bound per device and each device has its own 21-day window — reinstalling resets it. This is intentional, to prevent abuse. Redemption codes are bound to the first device that activates them and cannot be transferred.
- AI interpretation is slow or fails.
- Try switching between Wi-Fi and cellular. The App routes intelligently across multiple Hub nodes — typically Alibaba Cloud for users in mainland China and Cloudflare globally. If the issue persists, please check your network or email us.
- I can't find my redemption code.
- A redemption code is bound to the first device that activated it. If you encounter issues, please contact us with your purchase proof.
